Round Table Discussion of Media Regulatory Authorities

KYIV MEDIA WEEK 2015 introduces special project Round Table Discussion of Media Regulatory Authorities of Ukraine, Poland, Slovak Republic and Czech Republic in partnership with the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine.

The first Round Table Discussion of Media Regulatory Authorities of Ukraine, Poland, Slovak Republic and Czech Republic will be held on September 9 in the course of KYIV MEDIA WEEK 2015. This is a one-day special project, an event that brings together representatives of Regulatory Authorities of Ukraine with the colleagues from Eastern Europe.

Ukrainian media market is in dire need for international experience of industry’s state regulation, especially today, in the view of the rapidly changing political and economic realities. The delegates from European countries will visit Kyiv and share their knowledge and practical experience. An active discussion on the legislation in the sphere of mass media, television and radio and practical issues of regulation of the industry are expected.

The National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine acts as the co-organizer of the Round Table Discussion.

During the Round Table Discussion the following issues divided into three thematic sections will be discussed: 

Session 1: Content. National and foreign products broadcast on Ukrainian TV channels. Quotas. How to deal with hate speech. Development of local content production and co-production with neighbouring countries. Protection from harmful effects, kids content. 

Session 2: Regulation. Broadcasters supervision. Program concept of broadcasting. Retransmission of foreign TV channels in Ukraine. Transparency of media ownership. Sanctions for law violation and their practical application.

Session 3: Prospects of Development and Plans for the Future. Digital switchover. Public broadcasting. Broadcasting Code Draft. Ukrainian TV and radio broadcasting development plan.
