17 August 2012, 18:41

At the Fifth International Conference Film Business in Kyiv will be held a panel discussion titled "Co-production as a profitable venture: reality or fiction?" The panelists will be Dr. Martin Smith, a Special Adviser in the British company Ingenious Media, the owner and managing director of West Bridge Consulting. Investment company Ingenious Media is in business since 1998 and holds a leading position in its segment; during these years the company has invested more than $ 10 billion in the creative industry. Ingenious Media has invested in 99 feature films, including such worldwide blockbusters as Avatar, Die Hard 4.0, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Water for Elephants, The Descendants, Girl with a Pearl Earring, Vera Drake, StreetDance 3D and others. The company has funded more than 400 hours of prime-time TV drama. Ingenious Media is the largest independent investor in creative content in Europe. At the conference Film Business Dr. Martin Smith will share with the audience the experience of his company's investment in the film industry, as well as talk about real life examples of the private funds investments in the film industry.

I hear that there are a lot of smart people in the Ukrainian film industry.  I look forward to discovering what’s happening in the national marketplace for film production and distribution, and to sharing my thoughts on the future of the industry, and especially for film financing in a global market which, though full of opportunity, will also be increasingly challenging for producers as sources of “soft” money become more difficult to access in many European markets.

The continuing impact of digitalisation will create winners and losers in all markets.  The development of film and other forms of creative content as an alternative asset class is one of the most interesting developments from an investor perspective, though one which is in its infancy.  I’ll be happy to share my thinking on this and other pressing issues”, - comments Dr Martin Smith.
